Hello Friend This is the page where you will find the Free Wood Turning Videos. We are currently shooting the videos, then there will be some editing and then we'll bring them to you. My video guy has done a great job planning some really nice instructional videos for you. I thought it would be easy to shoot some videos but little did I know. But what you'll see will be worth it, I can guarantee you that. In case you're wondering about my experience, let me tell you a little bit about how I got here. My life-long profession as a custom cabinet and furniture maker led me right into the art of woodturning. Before woodturning, my artistic talents were used in the design and color development of my custom cabinets and furniture pieces. My interest in turning began when I enrolled in a community college course. After my very first class, I went home and purchased my first lathe. Although I had a shop full of tools, the lathe was the first tool that allowed me to create an artistic masterpiece. I was hooked on woodturning. Hollow forms are my specialty. Many of my hollow forms are turned from exotic and North American burls. Burls are an outgrowth on trees that contain decay or bark inclusions. These pieces would normally be thrown away but a wood turner knows that they have some inner beauty. The grain patterns and color variations are unimaginable and make for fantastic art pieces. When I choose a burl, I imagine the piece that I will first shape it into. Now, the concept may change as I start working with the burl because of what I see as I get deeper. Also, burls can be fragile so that will change the concept a bit too. To me that's where the beauty is, within it. My experience with wood finishes has helped me create a finished product that explodes with color. I'm sure as you see some of the examples I show you on my videos and through some of the pictures I'll share with you here on my blog, you'll appreciate the lustre and beauty of these finshed pieces. I'm so glad to open my studio, The Burl House to you. This is where I teach beginning to advanced courses in the art of woodturning. It's always a thrill for me to see the beginning students’ amazement when they have created their first piece, so please send me some pictures of your work.
